Doug Grundman is driven by his commitment to inclusivity, social justice, and empathy. He is also described as accountable, organized, dedicated and acts with integrity. Doug has over thirteen years of experience in teaching, volunteering, mentorship and coaching with youth, adults, and families. Doug believes in a collaborative environment, and values a holistic approach that engages, inspires and fosters individual and community growth.
Interviewing Doug was an honour. Doug started off in the fashion industry but as the years passed, he felt a missing link. He yearned for a stronger connection to the community so he became an elementary school teacher. In that role, Doug found that his favourite part of the day was when he connected with his students and their families. He wanted to make that a greater part of his day, so he sought out coaching as a profession. Doug had a mentor who suggested that he certify as a Coach. Doug did a lot of research and phone calls to other options prior to selecting Canada Coach Academy. The message that Nathalie shared with him resonated, and the program she was offering fit his goals.
Learning what is different about a coaching conversation was a mind-blowing experience for Doug. He learned that coaching was more about listening than anything else. Being able to empathize with the coachee and facilitate an opportunity for them to reach their goals became his passion. Coaching has impacted Doug’s life significantly. It’s his honour to be a part of a process where he’s invited into a dynamic where someone is sharing personal goals. To be part of that process is a fulfilling experience for him.
Doug’s mission as a coach is to always leave his coachee feeling better about themselves than when they first met him. When this happens, they feel a potential for growth. His mission is about self concept and possibilities. Doug is a bit of a romantic, and he feels that coaching has an exponential effect. Someone leaves his session with a better sense of who they are and what they can achieve. That, in turn, impacts their world and who they come into contact with in a positive way. The domino effect of paying it forward through the individuals he gets to coach every day is his impact on the world.
Doug’s message to the world is “Believe in yourself”. Three small words arranged into a thought-provoking phrase. He believes that if we can start there, and take responsibility for our own actions, then the possibilities are endless. Doug, we champion your efforts and opportunities to coach within your community and beyond, and we hope to hear more from you soon!
